Schiff & Hulbert Recoups over $900,000 for Hospital.

Schiff & Hulbert represented a Chicago area hospital in Declaratory Judgment Action. The hospital sued an excess carrier for coverage for a workers’ compensation claim and Chancery Court. The court held the insurer in breach of its duty to defend. The Illinois Appellate Court awarded prejudgment interest, sanctions, and indemnification in excess of $900,000.


Schiff & Hulbert Wins Insurance Coverage Case
for Chicago Restaurant.

Schiff & Hulbert represented a fine dining restaurant in a suit against its commercial general liability insurer. The restaurant and its owners were sued for defamation by a former employee. The suit was tendered to the insurer who refused to defend and sued the restaurant. In a case of first impression, Schiff & Hulbert won Summary Judgment, which was affirmed by the Illinois Appellate Court. The ruling resulted in reimbursement of defense costs and ongoing insurance coverage in the defamation suit.
